Ok, I’m at wits end here. My Stihl MS290 quit at full throttle the other day and wouldn’t start. Here’s what I’ve done:

1. I have spark and installed new plug
2. New fuel line and filter
3. New impulse line
4. Tank vent not plugged or off
5. New carb kit and full clean including diaphragm
6. New fuel mix
7. New air filter

When I pull for a while, literally nothing, no burp, no chug, nothing. Pull out plug, not wet. When I rebuilt carb after pulling a bit, not really wet either. My guess is not getting fuel, but given what I’ve already done, what am I missing??

Thanks in advance!

why are you posting here? maybe better posted in "Lawn & garden" forum? some K dealers sell Stihl, but better directed to a small engine forum good luck

Every tractor person I know owns a chainsaw. Thought someone could help.

One way to prove if fuel or other is the source of problem is to squirt some fuel into the combustion chamber, either via plug hole or via the carb.
If it fires and dies you confirmed ignition is OK.

In the carb, did U place gasket on correct side of flapper valve?
Those little flaps need to be able to make contact with the ports so maybe gasket is on wrong side.
Been there done that!

LOL, just rebuild my leaf blower and also did a few wrong assembly moves but I will say all my leaves went to kingdom come yesterday PM, i.e. success!

Hmm...I think it’s assembled right but great thing to double check. Thanks.

do you use ethanol free fuel in your small engines? ethanol is frequently the culprit in fuel related issues

When you take the spark plug out and hold it against the head & pull....does it make a strong blue spark? If it isn't sparking then it's time to figure out why.

If you have spark, that only leaves the carb, and my bet would either be the flapper valve isn't sealing or the main jet has some crud in it in spite of the your best efforts at cleaning. Sometimes you need to do the carb a few times to get all the orfices open.
luck,

Compressed air is your friend when cleaning carbs.

One trick I learned was to use spray can oven cleaner to de gunk carbs.
Always have a few cans on hand just 4 that.
Just B sure to rinse thoroughly after de greasing as it is very caustic.

I agree with the oven cleaner but be careful with compressed air. What I do for cleaning the small orfices is to strip the insulation off of some stranded copper wire and then unlay one or two small strands. That's what I use to poke down the holes.
