Stihl prices vary quite a bit depending on the country- they're usually significantly lower in the US than in most of the European countries. This saw will probably cost less than that if and when it makes it here. They often roll out new tech in their cutoff saw (that's what they did with Mtronic) and indeed there's a TS500i available in the US. But sometimes it's years between the cutoff saw and chainsaws in the US.

Two stroke fuel injection presents some different problems than four stroke. For one, the injector has to fire twice as fast, which has been a problem in some past designs. There have been some successful ones though, including the current KTM enduro two strokes.

No the ECU gets power from the magneto, like the current ignition system.

Interesting, but what an utterly stupid and annoying commercial. A technical advance, and not anything explained about it. Oh, yeah, it cuts down trees!

Very interesting! And yes, a very annoying ad.

It was inevitable: FI in a small hand-held engine. I am still dissecting my first FI ATV engine, a 400cc Rotax.

BUT, does it puke bar oil all over the place when sitting?

Every one of mine have done it when it's above 60F..

The Germans can build a Mercedes, BMW and Audi, but apparently not a saw that doesn't leak large amounts of bar oil. Strange! Especiallly when it represents such an environmental catastrophy.

I hate the leaking oil, but if a Stihl actually starts, I am happy and most of my larger PRO saws always have started. In that respect, I don't really see the need for FI.

My Echo, Husqvarna's, Jonsered and one new Stihl all leak. They all have adjustable oilers and I have them all turned up to full oiler so mine are going to leak, I have a spot for them on a bench with pads that absorb oil based products..
