Stihl 2 in 1 Filing Guide

Before I pick one up I guess I should get the HF one to of the box and see if I am smart enough to use it.

Moving to Stihl was a late in life thing for me having low demands but I have been impressed with the company and like the idea of the 2 in 1 filing guide.

My Dad bought me my first saw in 1987, an 024 Super, and it's still running strong, holds a special place in my heart. I have always found Stihl to be top quality :thumbsup:

I just bought a 20" bar for my Stihl 270 saw and told the dealer I wanted something that would cut more aggressive than the anti-kick back chains that most places carry. He build me a chisel point chain and man will it cut fast. I cut a falling notch in a d 24" tree then just walked the saw around in reverse (cutting from the top of the bar) in less than 30 seconds it cut all the way around the lightning struck tree in dead wood. I couldn't believe the size of the chips it was throwing out.
I also saw upon close examination that a round file will not sharpen it. I have a feeling I will need a triangle file to sharpen this chain. I will have to ask the Stihl dealer what they sharpen that chain with.
Any one have a similar chain? How do you sharpen it.

What did he sale you? RSC or RSLK if full chisel? RM if semi chisel?

Thinking about it dont a 270 only use .325 chain? Prob just a RS RSC chain.

They are designed to be sharpened with a special file, like you guessed. You can, however use a regular round file. Full chisel chains cut real fast but do dull more easily than semi-chisel chains.

Receipt just says chain and I didn't think to ask. I don't do a lot of chain sawing and don't know all the technical stuff. I just told him to put something on that would cut more aggressive than the junk that come on most saws with the anti-kick back. I do know it is .325 chain but that is about it. He made the chain from a roll of it. I will ask him next time I go in.

Full chisel round RS RSC RSK uses round file like normal. SQUARE full chisel RSLK uses square file.

IF .325 it is not square chisel. Stihl dont even sell it and has to be done by hand or on grinder to get same.

It is prob RSC round full chisel. Great chain and uses 3/16" round file.

If he gave you the good .325 this should be it. Back to just RS name again. Used to be RSC.
