Steph\'s Nature Pics

Thanks to the advice and recomendations we recieved here, Steph has bought a Cannon S2 digital camera. It's loaded with features including a 12X optical zoom with image stabalizer!!!

After looking around, she bought it from www.beachcamera.com with a 1 gig memory stick for around $375 total. There were a few places that were about ten dollars cheaper, but they didn't have the reputation of Beach, so for peace of mind, she paid a little extra.

The reason for this purchase is her new found passion for birds, wildlife and nature in general. If it's outdoors, she's interested in it!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I'm gonna post some of the pics she's taken with it from time to time and sort of keep this an ongoing thread. Our ultimate goal is to be able to document what we have on our land on a yearly basis. What is here this month, might not be here in a few months, and who knows what will be here then.

This first picture is of us.

Indigo Bunting.

I've had the land for a few years now, but never noticed this bird before. Steph was watching the birds with the binoculars and discovered that we had these here!!!

Cotton Tail

He's become a regular in our yard. Early evening and first thing in the morning. The kids get a big thrill out of seeing him as they leave for school.

Frog

We stocked our small pond with fish about a month ago, and the tadpoles were very aggressive on the fish food. They are gone now, and this guy is there instead. He's way too big to have been a tadpole this year!!!

Brown Headed Cowbird

Never saw one of these before either. I think I thought they were just blackbirds, but up close with the zoom, you can sure see that brown head!!

Eastern Kingbird

Another suprise. We were on the porch the other morning drinking coffee and watching the birds when I realized this one was bigger than the swallows that are always sitting there. It took us awhile to figure it out, but the white on the tips of it's tail confirmed it. Finding a picture in her books can be a challange, but fortunately he stayed there the entire time until we could identify him!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Blue Jay

Being from California, I'd never seen a Blue Jay before. We had scrub jays, and they are about half the size of these birds. They are big, impressave and very aggressive looking!!! Their markings are just brilliant!!!!!!!

Re: Steph\'s Nature Pics

Blue Grosbeak

Steph thought this was a female Indigo Bunting at first because of it's blue head. Than while looking at her books, she realized the female bunting doesn't have a blue head! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Her books weren't very helpful since the picture isn't very clear, so she posted this picture at www.birdforum.net and within minutes, she had her replies.

Total accident and she discovers another bird species on our land!!! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
