Steph kills her first hog!!!

This evening Steph and I were watching about 40 crows eating the corn at my deer feeder. It sits 200 yards from the back door of my workshop.

At 7pm, the crows all flew off just as a helicopter flew over. We though it must have scared them off, but Steph said "wouldn't it be great is something else scared off the crows."

Then just as she said that, they showed up!!!!!

She was in a total panic. She literally froze in the shop and kept saying my name over and over along with a whole bunch of "oh my god, oh my god, oh my god" over and over again.

We snuck up to within 100 yards and took this picture.

There are 26 of them.

Steph was still in her scrubs from work and was haveing an adrenaline rush like she'd never expereienced before. She wanted to shoot one, but was also terrified to.

I told her that we could just watch them and maybe try another time, but there's no telling when we'll get such a great oportunity.

She really wanted to shoot one, but didn't want to lie down in the mud in her work clothes. So we backed up and put a sneak on them around to the side, but still downwind.

At fifty yards we were right on top of them.

She's been practicing with my Ruger 10/22 and is an excellent shot, but I never let her shoot my .30-06 because I didn't want her to flinch the first time she shot it.

Here she is just before the shot. We waited about ten minutes for a medium sized one to get clear of the others, stand broadside and to stand still.

My girl couldn't breath, she couldnt' hold the rifle steady and she was shaking all over!!!!

I talked her through it, got her breathing under control and had her hold the scope on target without a bullet in the chamber until she was able to get the buck fever under control.

Then we closed the bolt and waited for the perfect shot.

She took it and killed this 50 pound wild hog with one shot!!!

I'm very proud of her.

I'm having a hard time with that last picture, a nurse with a rifle. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

And to think I've got hundreds of dollars invested in gortex, backpacks, optics, boots,...just need a pair of scrubs.

Amazing how a gun can kick like a mule when pointed at a target, but you don't even feel it when sighted on game.
