Steph kills her first Coyote !!

Great shooting. 150 yards...that's 1 & 1/2 football fields!! Hope you guys don't end up like the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. I don't know who I would put my money on .

All your comments on the distance have me wondering what it was exactly. I measured it off from where we shoot hogs from to the feeder, and that's 130 yards. She shot from resting the rifle on the bed of my truck, which is at least 20 yards farther back from the shooting positing. The coyote was probably 30 yards to the left of the feeder, and back aways. I guessed 150 yards for the range on the shot based on those numbers. If it doesn't storm tonight, I'll measure it out in the morning.

Nice clean single shots, it's nice to see, versus 5-10 guys and 30 round clips trying to hit one at 20 mph on land they had to trespass on to get it.

We can hope; not necessarily for a storm, but sure would like to see some rain, and right now that 60% chance in the forecast is sure looking optimistic on the part of the forecaster.

I measured off the distance from where Steph shot the coyote to where it was standing at 562 feet, or 187 yards. I also measured my shot at 640 feet, or 213 yards. Those are within a foot or two of being 100 percent honest.

Looks like I was way off on my estimates.

Yep around Texas the landowners that lease to hunters usually run some cattle to. It's mandatory that hogs and coyotes be killed. At the weekend place we watch our little dog when she goes at night. They will come right up the the house at night. I've killed 4-5 while hunting and found them pretty easy to drop if they stand still. During the daylight hours if I'm not sitting hidden in a stand......I'll only see them running. Seeing one still during the day is a real treat.

We haven't gotten any on our property yet, but there are a bunch of them around us, my dad is the only one to see one so far, but you can see the signs of them all over. They can do a number to deer populations. Up here, landowners and their family can shoot them year round, so if I get a shot, I will definitely be taking it.

I actually read an article in a hunting magazine talking about how when you start to hunt predators, like coyotes, hunting becomes more fun. The guy said he actually prefers it to hunting, elk, deer, etc. Said he could be stalking a big elk, see a coyote, and will lay off the elk to try and get the coyote. Talked about how much more of a thrill it is because it is so much more challenging to hunt a predator. Congrats on both your shots, those distances are nothing to sneeze at. I love my grandpa's 30-06. Good hunting.

Oh yeah, my neighbor told me the best way to hunt coyotes is to grab a roadkill deer and put it as far away from cover as you feel comfortable shooting. Our cover would be our barn, the back window faces our back field. He said then put out a red spotlight and play some cards while you wait and watch. Haven't done it yet, but I am tempted to this year.
