Step Ladder Capacity - Watch out!

In Canada I beleive all licensed contractors are required to use CSA approved ladders that meet a set of construction standards. In certain locations electricians can only use fiberglass ladders.

Which reminds me, I have a leak on a skylight three stories up [ one and a half from a balcony ] and there is a very steep pitch on the roof. It seems I can always find some excuse to delay the repair as I dislike ladders.

Better get used to it, because it is the wave of the future. Less and less is being manufactured in the USA, and more of our goods are going to be coming from other parts of the world. Problem is that there are no safeguards as to the quality of the goods raw materials. I remember back in the late 1960's & 1970's learning about gold jewelry that came from another country that was radioactive, . At this time of the year, toys coming from other parts of the world are being checked for safety and lead contamination. Watch the news, you will start hearing about the "recalls" the closer we get to Christmas. Dusty

Many products with American brand names are made in China, of course, and quality specs are set forth for the Asian suppliers to follow.

Unfortunately, as soon as you are out of their sight, they do whatever they can to add to their profit margin.

The days of being able to watch the quality of the supplier across town is gone... they are on the other side of the world and they are getting away with more than you can imagine!

Lets see how you would proceed to file and persue a product liability suit against a Pakistani or Chinese manufacturer! If you have no legal recourse against them what is their incentive to build safe products?

I would like to buy American but need to buy more goods than just fast food (often cooked by illegals anyuway.) Customer service for American companies is in India or the Philipines or...

Spend the money ( $210) for a 10ft Werner 300lb fiberglass tripod ladder for outside work, it is much cheaper then a visit to an ED and will last 15 yrs in sun light- 25 yrs in occasional sunlight. The 3 legs are very steady on uneven ground.
I was told once by a ED doctor that falls were the number one reason people go to ED's. Of course most of those are not falls from ladders.
