I was wondering if anyone knows what the speed is of the bottom PTO pulley (that hooks to the attachment) on the Steiner 430 Max? At a speed of around 3500 rpm. The reason I'm asking is because I'm converting a attachment to a hydraulic motor and would like to know what type of speed I need.

The engine uses a 6 inch pulley. .the double idler I think is a 5 inch.So if you use a 6 inch on pulley your attachment you should have 1 to 1..

So, thats how that works. I see now, and thank you for your time and info. Thats helps allot.

This is some information I gathered with a Laser Tach some time ago on my 430 MAX Diesel.

Front Pulley is 4.5" O.S. Diameter

Approx Speeds:

Engine Idle 1100 RPM, Pulley 1615

Engine 3000 RPM, Pulley 3470

Full Engine 3700 RPM, 4100

Pulley Turns CCW looking at it from the front

Hope this helps

EDIT: I was just looking t those numbers and they didn't seem right. I had a calculator here on the desk and did some calculations to determine ratio of engine RPM to PTO pulley RPM. They don't jive!!!! Sorry! So either , there was slippage on the belt system, the tractor tach is not accurate or my (chinese) laser tach is lying to me.

But I hope that approx. numbers might suffice.

Thank you for the good info...is this with a B series drive belt, and I am assuming the pulley your checking is the lower double idler, because I know the top is a 6 inch..wasn't sure of the bottom one.

Yeah, that helps allot. I'm saving those numbers and it will help me out tremendously. Those Ventrac 15000watt generators are nice insurance at times, and this is what the hydraulic motor is going on so a PT-425 can run it. Thanks again for your time.

What size is the pulley on the generator? Good luck running that off a pt425s hydro circuit.honestly I think I'd run it off a Honda clone 14 hp on sale for 230.00 before I'd use the hydro drive, the ot doesn't deliver enough gpm to sustain the rpm needed as loads are increased..it will be hard to keep a stable 60Hz/120v with load fluctuations, not to mention the PT will burn 4x the fuel that a Honda clone will because hydro drive is roughly 55percent efficient at best, where as a belt is 90... A lot of your power goes to heat and pressure production on a hydro drive. At least the Honda clone should give youan honest 7kw output...I bet the PT will struggle to deliver that thru the hydro drive.

Thats interesting. Without measuring the pulley on the generator I would say its around 4 1/2" or 5". I never thought about that before. This PT-425 I just bought, so there is allot of learning for me to do. Have you ever considered buying a Ventrac generator? Living up in New York, I would think one would be handy with the extreme winters you guys have, lol.

I have considered one, but I currently own 3 generators, one is a combination 10kw continous Hobart welder /genset, I have an 10k rated Northstar generator with 16 vanguard, and a Honda eu2000i...i think I'm ok for now.., after I posted I went and looked up the hydraulic capacity of the PT 425 it says 8 gallons a minute at 2500 psi. using the standard hydraulic power calculator I get about 12.6 hydraulic horsepower I'm actually surprised it has that much I believe that will work but I believe if your loads get heavy you will lose a lot of rpm hydraulic motors are not the best for sustained speed.

Thanks for finding out that hydraulic horsepower; that number will come in handy in the future. Yeah, those 4500 Ventracs are probably the most comfortable compact tractor I have ever drove. The engineering is awesome, I especially like the shifter on the 3000 series where you can put the SDLA controls so they return to center, or stay in a cruise control type mode.

I apologize, the horsepower is 11.6......2500x8/1714.. So you should be able to get around 5500 watts out of it...as long as you can maintain 3600 on a 2 pole generator or 1800 on a 4 pole..

I would still be able to power much of the house with that much wattage, but maybe I better just stick with keeping it exclusively for the Steiner.

At the risk of being a naysayer, I have had PTO gensets but don't like the idea of running tractors that don't have shut down systems unattended, especially if it is a full rpm type scenereo. Maybe some people can accept this risk, but I for one cannot.

I get that part, all i would do would be to install a warning siren (cheap car alarm siren works great)..you'd need a universal oil pressure switch that grounds at 4psi, and a coolant temp sensor that grounds around 210 degrees..wire in a push button bypass so you can override the siren when cranking. Feed 12v from key on power, to the siren, and hook both the sensors up to the negative wire. All our tractors have no electronic way of shutting down, there old mechanical, throw the fuel lever up to shut down.
