Steiner 420 Kubota
I am having a problem with the PTO on my Steiner 420 tractor (Kubota engine). The idler pulley is almost touching the lower pulley and sometimes contacts slightly and makes a lot of noise. The manual says you should have 2" between the belt clearance with the pto engaged and an implement attached.
The manual says the belt should be an AO38 (ser. #1001-2999). ( or BO39 ser. # 3000 and beyond).
The AO38 belt is way too big. An AO36 fits pretty good and that is what I have on there now.
The parts manual shows part #25 - Frame, Idler part 62-441 with an elongated hole for mounting the bottom pulley. Mine does not have that elongated hole - just a single hole, so there really is no adjustment.
In order to mount the new blade, I need to take off the bottom pulley and the idler arm to get the belt in. Is It possible to that I put the arm back on wrong? I did not take it apart other than removing the single nut that mounts it to the frame (with a spacer washer so it can move). I put it back the same way that it was. And to be clear - it is working now, but I don't think the idler should be touching the bottom pulley.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am attaching photos of the idler pulley - both engaged and disengaged.
By the way, the serial # plate on the tractor says " GNC5633 ". The tractor was purchased April, 1997.
