Steering Failure

I can’t answer that question, all I can tell you is that I have had power steering fail on a car and I know what you’re talking about. The wheels still turn you just have to pull hard on the steering wheel. What I have here is a Total Failure of the steering. The wheels do not turn and the steering wheel just spins like it’s not hooked to anything. All I could do is step on the brakes and stop moving till steering returns.
I just got off the phone with the dealer; he is as frustrated as I am over this. He has had to come out and pick up my tractor at least 5 times. I questioned him about a steering pump. I thought I might have misunderstood him the first time. He told me again that there is only one pump that runs everything. He says that kioti has changed the design on the tractor by making the pump larger and changing the diverter valve to handle the larger pump. He says the pump design change was made to accommodate the backhoe running off the main hydraulics rather then having a PTO pump. I also was told that he now has 3 tractors that he has sold that are failing as bad as mine and that he is ordering all new steering parts for each of them. He also said that there are as many as 12 tractors that he knows of that are having failures.

Ok. I can't help but wonder if this is a hydraulic problem at all. Could there just be a mechanical slippage or something?

I hope you get it straightened out soon. With that many tractors affected, Kioti will figure it out, no doubt.

I'm knocking on wood, the only difficulty I've had with my DK35 (that wasn't self-inflicted /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif) is the 4WD lever is a PITA to move. But move it does, it's just a bit of a struggle.

sendero- raise your front end off the ground with your loader and the tractor will go in and out of 2wd./4wd. no sweat.

A few people have mentioned this, and I tried to help, but I didn't convey the idea very well. It's easy to move OUT of 4WD, but when engaging the 4WD, it is sometimes necessary to move the tractor up a few times so that the mechanism "meshes" properly. I've sometimes had to go forward or backward a few times until it was lined up right and then the 4WD goes right in. Sometimes it's not even necessary at all, and other times maybe only need to move a little once. As you are only disengaging when moving to 2WD, there's no need to go through the moves. I hope this helps.
You can also do as gmol recommends and lift the front which I think just allows the gears to more easily be placed into sych to engage. John

Try this. Trace the linkage underneath the tractor and find where it goes into the housing. Now get out your can of WD-40 or preferred spray lubricant. Soak this spot down really good, then work the lever, then soak it down really good again. You might let it soak overnight if the problem is really bad. Let me know how that works. This is what we do to slove all the 4wd in and out problems we have.

I was unaware of that trick, I will try it this weekend, thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Sometimes something as simple as the wrong air pressure in the tires will inhibit shifting to and from 4wd.

I agree Jerry. Anything that keeps the linkage from meshing properly. That's one of the reasons it's easier with the wheels off the ground. I hadn't thought of doing what DePratt mentioned. John

My LK3054XS had this same problem this weekend. I was backing up to hookup an implament and the steering wheel was just turning with no resistance and the front tires kept looking north. Sounds like I'm going to have some issues soon. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

People here on TBN share a common interest in tractors and similar equipment, but there are also folks from all walks of life, and that does not mean everyone shares a common view of all things. You'll have to decide for yourself if you think blatantly offensive political comments, like that in your signature, will make TBN a better place to be.
