Steering box removal on Kubota L245dt

Looking at buying a l245dt with a cab that has broken steering box, which seems to be a common problem with them. How do you get the column off? Looks like the steering wheel has to come off then the fuel tank needs to pulled off because the column goes through the tank. So from what I can tell the cab needs to be pulled (which has been welded on) off because the front of the cab comes down behind the wheel in the middle of the tank. Has anyone else run into this? Is there an easier way?

You are in for quite a job on that unit as its looking more than a little rough. Without the cab it’s not a huge job. The steering unit isnt made to handle the extra weight of the loader or cab.

They are good little tractors Id keep looking for a machine that’s less abused.

It's rough for sure. Also the tractor hasn't been started since he broke the steering 2 1/2 years ago. The motor is not stuck though. It has just over 2300 hours. I can do most of the work myself, but have worked on enough stuff to know once you dig into a project you always find more. What do you suppose it's worth?

I noticed the rear final drive is a little different on this tractor. Are they as tough as a straight axle? Just wondering if I add weight to the 3 point hitch if I will run into problems or not. One of the front axles is leaking behind the wheel. I would still buy it for the right price but having a hard time figuring out what to offer him.
