To really mess with your head, how about a condensing steam engine? Runs on vacuum as the steam condenses back to water.

You guys woulda loved the Maker Faire that happens every year in San Mateo, CA. Kinetic
Steamworks (Oakland, CA) always has an exhibit of working steam engines, including this cool 1917 Case
75hp steam tractor, aka Pappy. And it is CAL-OSHA certified.

I volunteered in their exhibit in 2016, and they had numerous steam enthusiasts running
their various working engines.

The Maker Faire is next week in San Mateo. No show like it. There are similar Maker Faires in
other cities now, but San Mateo is the original and model. There will be several steam engines in
operation there.

You would also appreciate BEAM (Bay Area Engine Modelers), who will show numerous working
model engines of all types.

Also, lots of kinetic art, like you see at Burning Man.

My last visit to the Good Guys car show in Pleasanton had an entire hall display from BEAM... some of the scale models were running... amazing the detail and even captured the sound...

As kid I had a little tin boat, that you put water in, put a cork in the hole.
Tiny candle ^ soon it would go off & running.

Some years back there was a TBN member that was related to the Trevithick of early steam train development.
