State of MN decided you don\'t need to know...

...the actual dealer's cost for New Holland tractors.

I was looking on the State of MN website today and noticed that they have removed all the "factory codes" from the New Holland price lists. Do you think all the New Holland dealers were complaining about people showing up in their showrooms with those prices from the factory codes? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif It's either that, or NH had to change the prices to dealers and so the factory codes were no longer accurate. Check it out. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe they have a new agreement with NH, keep it under the table. It seems that we know less and less about what the government is up to.

I don't get the connection between not making the dealer's cost public information and the government hiding information. Were I New Holland (or Deere, Kubota, Kioti, etc.) I would not want my cost to be made public to my competitors. Having this information would make it a lot easier to underbid the next time. It's not unusual for vendor's detailed responses to RFPs (Request For Proposal) to remain confidential. The total cost of the winning bid is public, but not the details. Odds are, New holland requested this.

Dealer costs are easy to find on just about everything. Maybe I didn't word that right. NH might have increased their prices and MN didn't want the taxpayers to see state bids any longer.

I am confused, the prices are still there. What's the significance of eliminating the factory codes? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Look at the markup on the Cub Cadet's.

Re: State of MN decided you don\'t need to know...

The factory codes included numbers for the dealer's actual cost for items like the FEL quick attach adapter plate and QT bucket. For my tractor that was $710 total. Did you know the dealer's cost for the second or third remote kit on a Class III Boomer is $150? The kit sells for $210 to $213. No matter what the MSRP, you could look and see what is the total markup to MSRP. That definitely gives you a better negotiating position when you can figure markup from cost rather than discount from MSRP. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm not saying all dealer's costs are there. As Spencer200 has pointed out, a dealer has to keep the lights on and employees employed. I've always been surprised that info was there, but I guess I'm even more surprised that they opened up the Adobe Acrobat files and overlaid white to mask the codes after the numbers have been up there for 6 months. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I've probably said enough about this already. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I don't mean to make any point except suddenly the numbers have been masked. There is probably a very good reason and showing the competition your actual cost is as good a reason as I can come up with.

So you are right, Mike. The MSRP prices are there and you can figure your discount using that price too. As a matter of fact, the discount to the State of MN is based on MSRP. I think after the bids are received, this info becomes public record. There's nothing really hidden on any brand/color of tractor or implement. I just like going there and doing some "window shopping" for the prices of things I'd like to have. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The first page of each document in a section indicated a percent discount to be applied to the List Price, e.g., Cub Cadet is 25%. JD 4010 through 4210 is also 25%.
