Locally, a typicial Kentucky cattle and tobacco farm, 255 acres, 2/3 open, balance woods, road frontage and a 7 acre with creek sold at auction last Saturday. Averaged $1200 per acre.

Many of the midsize farms 50-100 acres have turned to moonshine and marijuana as their number 1 cash crop the cattle in the fields are for looks . moonshine here is $10.00 a quart and I heard the marijuana is just as cheap , there are more guys with brand new trucks and brand new bass boats yet they have cardboard in their windows at home , I wonder why ?

Farmland I see around here advertised for $6-8k per acre. Biggest crops around here are corn and soybeans. Some cattle, but not like Texas.

Sorry Grumpy, there are still a lot of farmers who are straight up and square. It's just that here the G'ment has gotten out of the tobacco program so now you can raise as much as you can get a contract for. 25 acres yielding 2500lb per acre is 62,500lb, with a profit average of between $.40 and $.50 per pound. 25K to 31K annually from 25 acres. That makes some farms within for a young hard worker.

What's a round bale of that "funny hay" go for these days?

At $10 per gram a 400kg round bale would go for 4 million. We are in the wrong business.
