Starting Problem R3039

Twice in the last 3 months I have gone to start my tractor and it acted as though the fuel was shut off and wouldn't start. There is a bad rattle when this happens but it sounds as though it's coming from the front of the motor, not the starter. 5 minutes later it will start as though nothing is wrong. Any ideas?

Yes it's turning over and rattling like a bunch of beer cans in a washing machine.

Have you checked the glow plugs? Do you have voltage to them?? Are they heating up??

No I haven't because I wouldn't think it would start 5 minutes later if the plugs weren't working.
