As for the TA most of what Ive read about them isnt good (rather like Fords SOS). Unless someone can make an excellent case for an 'exotic' trasmission Im plann to stay away from them.

When a TA is working correctly, its pretty neat, HOWEVER: when they go out,. 99% of the time its on the low side, which by the way, is what you need more than the high side. They can be rebuilt but it may cost a few hundred $$. Find a good Super H or 300 Farmall (Tri-cycle) ('57 or so vintage) and you'll be set to go. Bobg in VA

I have done a lot of antique pulling and have an attic full of trophies. I pull
Allis Chalmers, Olivers and Cockshutts. There are certain models of trractors that dominate each weight class because they have a lot power for their weight 2000lb a B AC is impossible to beat 3000lb a WC Allis or Oliver 66 with
660 components in the engine. Very few 'stock' tractors are stock some of the smoothest running stock looking tractors can have 2 or 3 times the original horsepower. An Oliver 77 to run in the 3500lb and 4000lb class is a good tractor to start with as engine parts are easily obtainable and engine 'upgrades' are relatively cheap such as a 770 engine kit and head.
Of course there is really no limit to the modification or the $$$$ you can put into a puller.

Reminds me of a comment I heard back when I was younger and hung around drag strips.

SPEED KILLS, Play it safe, Buy a Ford! ;) (NOT MY remark! Just thought it was funny at the time)

The olivers and cockshuts are usually in the top positions around here.

Mid class Oliver Row Crops gives everyone good fight, but the upper class JD 720 propane seems to be the one to beat as long Massey or Oliver 98 or 99 GM turbo doesn't show up.
