Starting a new house

A little less than 100. I did the electrical myself. A can light is $7 + $4 for the trim. I went a little crazy with them.

I though it was some newfangled ceiling drywall anchor system.

That is the part of the basement that my wife did not claim. 17' wide by 42' long, 18 can lights, 10' wide x 8' tall garage door with a work bench on the opposite end. It has two 20 amp outlet circuits and a compressor on a third.

Bruce -

That's quite the stately colonial you have there! Absolutely beautiful house and view.
Big wraparound deck overlooking the water??

Bruce, that's quite the house. I know you must be getting very antsy at this point to get it finished before winter sets in. It doesn't look like you'll have any problems doing that.

I'm curious about one thing I haven't seen mentioned. When I looked at your foundation pour, I didn't see any plumbing or electrical. Are you bringing in utilities from the side of the house rather than up through the foundation? Can you share some pictures of that with us?

Thanks Guys,

There will be a deck sticking 10' out toward from the middle level. It will run the 44' length of that floor then wrap around the west side toward the front of the house.

This concrete slab is between the lake and house on the basement level then wraps around the East side

The basement is dry except for a hydrant outside, hot water heaters and a grey water sink planned for my workbench. The only pipe in the slab was a drain line for the heat and air. It runs through the gravel under the slab.

Water enters the house near the top of the basement wall on the front (South) side. You can see three holes in this picture which are used for the water line and geothermal loop. The lines were covered by the brick footer that was later poured in this area and rebarred to the poured walls.

Sewer exits through the west wall via this 4" pipe also near the top of the basement wall going to a septic tank on the west side.

Electrical will enter through the west side of the house above the concrete wall into the floor truss area. Entergy requires all new construction to have the meter box and conduit entirely on the outside of the brick. The box for a 340/400 AMP meter is rather large. I am hoping to be able to place the box where it will be high enough to meet standards for meter height but also allow the service wires to enter the house from inside the box. The transformer and temporary meter sit about 30' west of the house.

Internally the utilities run horizontally though floor trusses between the floors and vertically through the walls and some space taken from closets.

Thanks for the info, Bruce. That's just as I expected. Your complete plumbing and electrical will be serviceable without going under the foundation. Awesome!
