1989 Case 275
Hello Folks, I just discovered this site and was wondering if someone knows where I might get this part for my old tractor. (1989) Had it since it was almost new, fixed it up the way I want it, shame to let something like this keep me from enjoying working with it again. Oh, and money's a scarce object these days around here, kinda like water is.

Welcome to the site.

I can't help with where to get a solenoid, but I did have the same tractor as you before my current one, and I remember quite often that it seemed like the solenoid was going bad, seemed like it would click a lot and I thought maybe it was a bad ground. I never did figure out the problem with it and ended up selling it like that.
I remember someone sending me a message on here as well, regarding a starter problem with their Case. Aside from that one issue, it was a great tractor and never gave us any problems.

Thanks for your reply Mr. Piston. You know, the way you describe your 'clicking' problem, reminds me 100% of the same clicking on mine, and I've always managed to (well, not ALWAYS) get it started with persistence and sometimes jumper cables. (A tractor mechanic friend of mine put in a stronger battery than called for and this got me started with ease for a while, but even this battery eventually only worked with a jump). What makes me sure I need this solenoid now is that the positive side bolt on the solenoid has become worn, or stripped, to the point that it will neither tighten nor loosen. (Another friend showed me how to 'coax' it off with steady pressure from behind, there was no 'coaxing' it tighter.) This has been a great tractor other that the clicking, jumping, starting issues; I always make sure I'm ready to work with it for 6 or more hours when I do go to start it, about a full tank of fuel. Oh, and I have found a solenoid for about $60 or so, delivered. (This after my local dealer told me it would be around $250). Again, thank you very much, and what did you get after your 275?
