Hey Guys, can a bad starter selnoid cause the pto light to stay on? And I put power from the battery to the clip where purple start wire attaches and hear fairly loud click but no starter engaged. So took starter off had it tested at parts store checked ok. It extended and spun fine. I take it home put jumper cables on it and same as before selnoid will extend but will not spin. What do you think. I have replaced both battery cables. Installed the Napa switch and all fuses are good. Except does blow the 7.5 #2 fuse when i turn on the headlights. I believe this is something to do with the pto light being on. I need some help on this for sure. Thanks

Welcome to TBN.

It would help if you told us what type of tractor you have, but I'll take a stab at it:

TC35 Wont Start. Total Silence.

Make sure your battery is good and fully charged.

As Doc said,it's most likely a weak battery causing the fuse to blow.

62stud has a TC33 according to his profile. That's why I'm going to suggest that he read the sticky post at the top of the NH Owning/Operating forum.

...and in answer to his question. Yes, the solenoid on your starter can cause the #2 fuse to blow and subsequently the PTO ON light to illuminate. The starter has pull-in (high current) contacts and hold-in (low current) contacts. If the starter voltage is low to the solenoid and it cannot get to the hold-in position, the higher current will persist and cause fuse #2 to blow. It's a common problem that more and more of our tractors seem to be experiencing. :(

62 stud I had a tc33d and the pto light will stay on if the safety switch wires have been pulled apart near the left rear tire. May not be the problem but something to check

Are you positive you have the NAPA ignition switch wired correctly. Does this switch have the exact functions of the factory switch. I havn"t had verry good luck making universal switches work properly.

Just want to make sure you understand......if the PTO light is on,your starter will not engage. I'm not sure you need a new starter at this point.

Yes got same one off this site and wired the same. The glow pplug timer just needs power it times out itself. Then power to the purple switch wire on mine. I just know when i send power straight to the starter clip where the purple wire attaches it does extend the starter but will not spin it.
