Starlink

Got the $40 "mini" router in today. It was wirelessly recognized by the main router and added as a mesh node without issue. I cabled it to a 5 port gigabit switch to provide Ethernet to three devices.

I had previously used an old dual band router as an access port for them.

glo fiber coming to my area, starts at $40 for 300 Mbps, $65 for 600 Mbps, and can get faster 1.2Gbps $80.

Yesterday I had to relocate my Gen2 dish due to increased obstruction issues interrupting service every few minutes. It was a side eve wall mount and suddenly the gutter became an issue. Did the dish reorient itself? Has anyone else experienced this? I suspect the dish reoriented itself slightly to look more upward which caused the gutter to partially block its view.

Yes, my Gen2 dish automatically adjusts position to get the best signal. It now faces around 30 degrees to the east from it's installed position 2 years ago.

No obstruction issues though.

The gen3 dishes dont move.
Ya, 2nd gen moves a bit, mostly at startup or when stowing. Gen 3 (and the mini I assume) just has a kickstand & is manually aimed. Plenty of people chopped the motion system off the 2nd gens for a flat or permanent mount & they worked fine.

I expect now that they have a lot more satellites up there than a few years back aiming is less critical. So they killed the motion system for cost & complexity savings. Generally as long as it's pointing to open sky you are pretty much set.

Mine was originally facing mostly north with just the smallest amount of east tossed in, then after quite a bit it suddenly was getting frequent obstruction messages. remounted it and it went to a much more NNE orientation and then it started getting obstruction messages again, so another mounting change and now it seems to have ENE direction to it. I have had some connection issues at times and I'm tempted to stow it and let it realign it's self.

Starlink is much nicer then my other alternatives most of the time.
But, we had a strong thunder storm come through this afternoon. And we started seeing a lot of buffering so I ran a few speed test using my laptop wifi'ed to the starlink router and my Starlink phone app directly.
