Im looking at a st1440 Satoah with 1300 hours and a tiller. Its in good shape and they are asking $2800 for both. I know its a mitsubishi under the tin but....How are they should i get it or run away screaming. It is a japanese model. the pto turns clockwise and it runs really good. Well?

You might want to post this under either the Grey Market Tractor forum or the Mitsubishi forum to get the answers you need.

Is it 4wd? Two cylinder or 3? I have had a grey Mitsubishi 1450 for ten years and like it a lot. It is a 3 cylinder 4wd, paid $3,500 with no equipment.

Are you positively sure it is a 1440 and not a 1450 or a 1540? There is an image of a ST1540 on satohparts.com and on google. If there is a 1540 there could be a 1440 but I have not heard of one. Look at the image on satohparts.com and let us know if it is similar. That is a good place to find parts, manuals, etc. By the way, welcome to tbn.

yep im sure its an ST1440 Ive seen pics of the 1450 too. The 1440 is 17hp maybe its an older equililent of a 1450. How about the parts situation?

Not a dealer or vendor here, just an owner and long time reader. There are vendors such as Valley Power and Shaefer's Town and Country Tractors and others who could address the availability of parts. Give'em a google or just browse the Mitsubishi/Satoh forum and get their phone numbers. They can help you. I am interested in what this tractor compares to.(other Satoh/Mits) I have a Satoh S-470 that my Father bought new and also have Mitsubishi D1450-FD grey that I have had 10 years. They are nearly identical except for engine size. Your price sounds good up front. Good luck.

I think Buck at EFC sells Mitsubishis in addition to Yanmars. You might want to contact him. I was hoping there was someone on here with your same tractor that could answer your questions. All I know is that some of those Satohs are really difficult to get parts for and that someone here would know if that was one of them. If it is, I would avoid it, but if it is relatively easy to get parts for then it sounds like a good deal for that price.

The St1440 is the gray equivalent of the U S model S373D Satoh. The D1450FD would be the Mitsubishi equivalent. All were built at the same time by Satoh Agricultural Machinery Corp which merged with Mitsubishi in 1980. Very well built, and usually troublefree. Price is fair for a tractor in good shape. We sell parts and manuals for Misubisihi and Satoh's. I have the 18Hp version, Satoh Buck S470D, and have owned several in my 30 years selling them. Bill - satohparts.com 1-800-609-5110

Bill is correct on the similiarity of the ST1440, except there is one major difference. The ST1420/1440 & D1450 have a backwards running pto with the fine spline. I can supply an adapter to covert it to the standard 6 spline & I'm working on a reverser for it also. I have a D1450fd parts tractor & can supply new or used parts & manuals .
