Has anyone tried one of these:

Titan Hitch Mounted Ripper

I have an SSQA to 3 pt adapter plate for my FEL with an attached 2" receiver. I'd like to use this hitch ripper to rip roots and loose red shale. At $48, It looks well made and is a lot cheaper than a ripper tooth for my BH. I realize most FEL's are designed to push, not pull but I've been back dragging heavy material with a bucket for years without a problem. The tooth is centered between the FEL arms so there is no side load. I suppose the ripper could be reversed to rip going forward as well

It might be worth an experiment. Any thoughts?

Wow, thanks for sharing. That could be a great solution for me on getting up some small tree roots. Hopefully somebody that has used one will be able to chime in.

I personally would feel much more comfortable pulling that with the 3pt hitch. I know buying a 3pt receiver adapter would add to the cost, but it might be cheaper in the long run.

I also have a 3 pt hitch adapter and using the ripper there is always an option. I agree that a tractor is designed to pull but there is no down force on a 3 pt hitch. Using it on the FEL allows you to put some of the weight of the tractor on the ripper tooth. The angle of the tooth relative to the ground can also be adjusted using the FEL curl.

Buy a simple 3-point sub spoiler. IMHO I think you’ll have a chance to damage your FEL doing it the way you suggested.

I have used a subsoiler with cable burying attachment, the shank/subsoiler will pull itself into the ground with ease. I would not worry about down force.

While you probably don't need downforce due to the tooth angle, if you have a weight box (I have the Titan model!) you can add a receiver and then the weight box will "power down" that ripper. The Titan box already has one.
But I also have a stand-alone sub-soiler, and it dives for the center of the earth, no problem! It only weighs 100 pounds or so.

Yes to the pipe layer piece (although at the time it was back ordered and took months), but I got the sub soiler from northern, on sale for around 100$. Used it to lay 'rigid' 3/4" pvc electrical conduit

How deep could you get your conduit?
