Tractor
JD 2025R, previously Gravely 5650 & JD 4010 & JD 1025R
I removed the rear PTO shield. The combo of it allowing a tad less room than the JD 2025Rs and the refusal of the PTO to allow easy hand rotation was too much. The shield is off and will stay off. I'm a big boy and know not to put things in the way of a rotating PTO. Takes a 12 mm open end wrench because of interference with the HST dip stick on the left side.

Put the WM WC46 wood chipper on today and managed some work with it until the discharge chute plugged (only 2nd time). Ran it at 2300 rpm ~ 450 rpm on the rear PTO where I ran it with the 2025R. Can probably increase the hydraulic feed speed now with a tad more hp on the B2601. It and the JD just loaf along with the WC46, but a WC68 at 700 # is a tad heavy to use on our hills. I really noticed the 510 # WC46 back there on the 2025R but didn't take it down the back hill this afternoon. The B seems a bit less tipsy.

While moving it, the right rear tire lugs were rubbing on the right lower lift arm. I swung the tractor left and went back to the garage.

Do not put the pins for those sliding tensioners in the slots. I put the right pin in a hole to hold it in place.

The PTO shaft didn't need to be shortened any more. I'd already shortened it another inch from what the WM instructions told me to because it seemed to bind when lifted. Still does that. I'll just shut it down before lifting. Think I have to do this anyway to be able to put the seat down. Tractor will shut down if it put the seat down with PTO running.

The rear PTO instructions in the operators manual do not work. Had to tilt the seat up against the steering wheel. Then the rear PTO could be used.

The PTO position selector was difficult to move the first time. I'd had it in front position with hopes of being able to rotate the shaft by hand. Nada.

Mine all seem to deteriorate in sun. I don’t mind them, they don’t really give me any piece of mind though. Anything spinning that fast with that much energy is to be respected no matter what kind of candy wrapper is on it.

I was thinking over the winter here that it would be interesting to start a Youtube series like "What can a running tractor PTO destroy?" Kind of like Blendtec's "Will it blend!" series.

I know it sounds silly, but some people really like that kind of stuff. Stupid things like the hydraulic press channel or something. But people will spend hours binge watching that stuff.

I would get an old tractor that I wouldn't really care if I had to rebuild the gearbox a couple times to have some fun with it. Then I'd make a long driveshaft mounted on some pillow blocks and have at it. I drop stuff on it while it's happily spinning using an electronic solenoid so none of my body wouldn't be anywhere near it.

Two of the first things that would intrigue me would be dropping a hay-man on it. Then getting like 1000ft of Ethernet wire and see what would happen.

It would certainly be a valuable learning tool for those who like to play with danger.

If you live in farming country you know what it can destroy. Everyone knows several people that have been killed by a spinning pto.

As long as I can still manipulate PTO connection - the shield will remain on. I DO have an advantage. The metal PTO stub shield on my tractor will hinge up and give extra room.

Mine hinges too (Deere 4052R)...I've yet to see a Deere that doesn't have a hinged PTO shield (Deere's I have owned: 670, 790, 4400, 4520 and current 4052)

I’d subscribe

I wish at times mine hinged farther and then I could pin it down. Hmmmm, after typing that I’ve got to go see if I could make that mod myself.
