Can any one direct me to a resource that explains how to create a nice flowing creek out of a underground spring that surfaces out of a hole in the ground and saturates a wide area? Would it be best to have a pools to have a small resevoir of water as it disseminates down the hill.Keep in mind this project is all hand dug.Thanks.;)

Kerrminator,

I don't understand this other person's post but I think I understand yours. You have a small spring that doesn't really go anywhere. The water just saturates the surrounding area, and therefore you would like to dig a creek of some sort to give the water someplace to go for aesthetic or functional reasons. More details in this situation would help. What is the flow rate of the spring? How big is the saturated area? How steep is the hill? What is the soil composition (rocky, sandy, etc.)? And of course pictures would help tremendously. Many people to help here... just need more info.

The one thing I didn't understand is this "hand dug" thing... is that a new European tractor or what?

Kerrminator,

Having a water source is a huge advantage. Not having something to dig with besides a shovel is a huge problem. hahaha

One of the things you have to remember is that disturbing the spring can affect it's flow and even stop it all together. I wouldn't do anything close to the spring unless it was very with minimal contact with the spring.

Not knowing your area makes it hard to plan a pond, dam or place to dig. Pictures would really help. Also a long term plan that creates the ultimate pond for your location is much better than a quick hole in the ground.

Go to Pond Boss Magazine Home Page! and read up on the posts over there. They are the experts on ponds. Figure out what you want to do, where you want it and how big it will be. Think big. Think of what you would realy want!!!

Then when you got a plan figured out, come back to this site for info on how to do it. There are lots of ways to dig and move dirt.

As for Trahare's critique of your post. It's pretty sad that he feels the need to be rude when all you wanted was some help and suggestions on how to improve your land.

Looks like he did the right thing and deleted his post. It might have just been one of those cases of making a joke and nobody else got it.
