Spreader Spreader Maintenance after spreading fertilizer?

Bought a pull behind spreader LMC ag IPS 200 , it has a poly hopper and stainless steel spinner. What is the best way to maintain it after spreading fertilizer? To keep the metal parts from rusting and seizing up.

Similar one, I wash with water and then spray with silicon spray. It's worked well for years. I store it inside of course.

After washing I too sprayed with Silicone and stored out of the weather. I also used it re-spray before I used it. Made cleaning easier until hurricane Zeta dropped a tree on it. Never turn a spreader upside down to store. The oil can seep out of the gear box.

I made the mistake 1 time of forgetting to clean and spray mine. Rusted solid in a few days. After disassembly and cleaning, i will never do that again. What a pain.

Brush it and, or spray it with diesel.
