So I've been thinking about this for a long time. Have any of you guys ever put a spray tank on you brush hog? If so how did you set it up? I have a new 15 bat wing and seriously considering some type of setup. I believe this would cut down on trips across the pasture and improve my quality of forage. Any thoughts on this?

Probably not a good idea;lot of vibration with a BH.

I agree with not a great idea due to vibrations think would be easy to cause issue with nozzles. Also what is driving the sprayer pump, you have two ptos on your tractor or using hyd pump or electric? Then you have to adjust the spraying on the go due to tractor speeds dropping due to cutting loads. Also not good spraying weeds right after they are cut. Normally need a few days of growth before spraying and after spraying so chemical can be absorbed.

The one thing I think it will get is low weeds like black berry vines.

However I don’t know about how the vibration would affect the sprayer components.

I have seen sprayers mounted on mowers for folks doing right of way maintenance. Most of the time they are spraying a growth inhibitor to reduce the number of mowings they have to do. Not sure how well it would work if your not using a systemic herbicide such as 2,4-D, however if using a contact herbicide such as glyphosate then you would probably be OK.

2,4D and glyphosphate both need to be applied to actively growing plants. I am not understanding how a sprayer on a mower accomplishes that. Putting either on a 4 or 5 inch stalk of a broadleaf will not kill it. Now if a residual herbicide is being applied that is a different story.

The vibration may not be a big issue, I am only basing it upon my sprayer experience. I think the nozzles cap would tend to vibrate loose but could be wrong. However based upon my limited experience of spraying row crops and hay fields and such, often 20 inches is as near as nozzles are recommended to what is being sprayed and one reason is to give them distance to allow the spray to open up to the needed width. Then I certain don't know all the different types of nozzles and their specs. It certainly would not be hard to install a bar on the cutter to mount nozzles. Maybe boomless nozzles would work. Would be my recommendation.

Will you be mounting tank on the front of the tractor or a saddle mount off one side? Front end probably would give better balance. Depending on what you are mowing many need to protect the tank and any hoses.

kthompson, do you think a 2,4D mix (like Crossbow) would work mounted on a mower to get weeds left after mowing?

I cut pastures at about 7-8" tall.
