What is hydraulic oil's shelf life. Thinking of buying a 55 gallon drum of oil instead of 5 gallon pails. Appears to be a significant savings when doing so. I will use it for the tractor and log splitter. With tractor replacement intervals and the little oil the splitter will use I'm still looking at considerable shelf time. All help is appreciated!

Im not thinking the oil itself goes bad but rather the challenge of keeping condensation out of the partially used drum---know any neighbors, etc that could share the expense??

I have thought of that and yes I do have a couple good farmer neighbors. For sure the best idea if you don't want it setting around!

With respect to the condensation / moisture problem you could buy a 55g drum and 11 5g pails & lids and put the hyd oil in pails yourself. The oil company that you buy from has pails I'm sure, I used to get a pail & lid for like $2.50 each (but that was 7 or 8 years ago). Shelf life would be much extended in a sealed container.
