Speaking Of Handgun\'s

I read the post about handgun's this morning before going to work and thought nothing about it until later. I get a call to give a guy a hand installing a ckt at a local convenience store. We needed to run some wire through the store's attic and the access is in the rear office that is nothing more than a hallway with stuff piled up on each side. While I was up in the attic the armored car driver came in to do what he had to do. Now mind you he had to squeeze by the ladder to get to the manager and the safe which is only about 5 ft from the ladder. Well I'm done in the attic and come down the ladder when I get down I see the driver giving me the eye and reachiing for his hip. No prob. I just say how you doing walk around him and do what I have to do. Well he comes up to me and tell's me it is my lucky day because he was about to draw his gun on me. After I laugh for a second I told him that I saw him and gave him his space since he doesn't know who I am but, he did not have to tell me it was my lucky day. Well this pissed him off and he proceed's to show me where he had un hooked his holster. Now I'm pissed and told him that I knew he had a gun strapped to his hip and he did not need to show me and further more if you had pulled your gun you would no longer be employed and would no longer be allowed to carry since I was not a threat. Now I know that I want to go home at night and would have done the same thing if I were in his shoes but when I seen there was no threat I woud have played it off not brag about it. Well sorry about the rant it just goes to show that some even though the state check's these people out it doesn't mean the are qualified.. Oh and in case you are wondering it is barely legal for the average joe to carry a pencil in his pocket in the state of NJ.

Sounds like that guy was a jerk. He could have said, you scared the manure out of me, and I almost pulled my weapon. Saying it that way would have been much less offensive, but to tell you it was your lucky day is simply poor use of words. Seems he was on a power trip.

How did he know you were not a threat?

If a police officer pulls his weapon but didnt have to use it then no one says a word.
Now in the same situation if a guard did the same thing people would call complaining.

To bad guards are held to higher standard, and it makes me wonder who really is on a power trip when someone wants to complain when someone trained pulls out tool of their job.

Sorry to rant but I had a friend an armed guard get shot in the face buy a felony suspect. If he was a cop he would of pulled his gun without fear of job loss.

Re: Speaking Of Handgun\'s

He didn't and he prepared himself as if I was. I have no trouble with that but when he get's on a power trip and brag's about what he almost did then I have a problem. As far as police officer's are concerned and I'm sure some of them that are on this board would back me up they are trained to give a warning and be prepared to draw their weapon if you do not respond to the warning. Now tell me if you were walking by someone minding your own and they just pulled a gun without warning you would not defend yourself ?

He would still need to get his bullet out of his pocket before you were in any danger. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

First he didnt pull his gun out. Now if a uniformed officer police or guard pulled a weapon I would do exactly what i was told to do. But again he did not draw his weapon.
I worked as a police officer in the state of Oklahoma. Working with some who were guards before and they were very competent people. I responded to a situation where a guard peppered spray and man choking another man. The man would not stop so the guard sprayed suspect. A women was moaning why did he have to do that?
If that guard let the suspect choke the man to death then he would be in trouble for not spraying him. Whatever that gaurd did was wrong according to a bystandard. She already had her mind made way before the situation occured..

I agree he should not have showed you his holster no need for that.

I was not there so i cant pass to much judgement on the situtation.

Re: Speaking Of Handgun\'s

A lot of perceived trouble's would go unnoticed if people would just do their respective jobs and keep their mouths shut.

IMHO, the guard had no need to talk to you other than a "good morning". To engage in a conversation with you distracts him from his real job.

Re: Speaking Of Handgun\'s

The guard is an idiot. In NJ he can be charged with a misdemeanor for that conversation - Making Terroristic Threats. At a minimum he nedds a new job.

Of course, most likely the best way to handle this is to ignore it, which is what most people would do, since actually filing a complaint is a colossal PITA. No harm, no foul?

Absoloutly, power trip sounds correct... I fully understand and respect what a guard does as well as any LEO, but when it comes to bragging and "brandishing" his power, there is no difference from a civilian brandishing a weapon.. Its your job, you may have been startled, but keep your mouth shut and go about your job(is my opinion on it).. Too many cops(as well as gaurds) in rural areas have this problem, and I think it comes down to a $10hr salary drawing in people who dont have the proper training, and want to look important...He was out of line..

Re: Speaking Of Handgun\'s

The guard is a Napoleon. He only said something to try and let you know, he has power. The ONLY reason he is a guard is so he CAN carry a gun AND wants everyone to know that he does.

In my experience people who brag about being armed usually wouldn't hit their target if they emptied their magazine. So you probably would've been fine as long as he was shooting AT you. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
