Spark Plug Socket Size?

Hello:

Does anyone know what size socket the spark plugs take on a International 460 tractor. It's a 221 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine. My 13/16 is too small.

The other two common sizes are 5/8" and 3/4". I'd try the 5/8" first.

Also might be metric...19 mm is a loose 3/4's", BTW.

Some of the older tractors had a 18 mm or 7/8 sae thread and I think they both take a 7/8 socket to remove.

If 13/16 is too small, wouldnt a 5/8, 3/4, and 19mm also be way too small:confused2:

I would try just a 7/8 deep socket. And yes, it could very well me a metric plug. Just because it is an older US tractor, doesnt mean someone could have just thrown whatever plugs in it they wanted.

Some of those engines didn't give much space around the sparkplug. Could it be that your socket is too thick?

I have an older Autolite sparkplug catalog and it specs plug #3116 for your 460: 3116 is a non-resistor power tip, 7/8" hex (and .025" gap in case you need that).

FYI, 3116 crosses to Champion D18Y.
