Tiller Sovema 72" Tiller Dilemma

I have the opportunity to purchase a 72" Sovema tiller from a local dealer for $1,000....
Machine looks very cosmetically rough, but mechaniclly seems in sound shape, the tines are in good shape (4 Tines per flange)...of course I dont know if its the 18th set of tines on it, but overall not too bad a machine. 99% of the roughness comes from the fact it looks not good...rusty, bent tailgate, etc.. Overall, I mentally priced it out at $750.00 and probably would have bit on it at that price, but his apparent "Best Offer" is 1k

Would it be a worthwile investement? What makes me leary is I can go to the TSC less then 2 miles from my house and pick up a 72" there for 1800 bucks this weekend (Grand opening, 10% off everything)....

I wasnt really in the market for a tiller, but with the upcoming garden expansion, it wouldnt be a bad thing to have....

Is a used Sovema better then a brand new King Kutter/TSC Unit? I mean if the only thing I need to do on the Sovema is a paint job, then fine...But anything serious happens and I'm only 800.00 away from a brand new one...

Sounds like an Italian machine Dave. There really isn't that much to go wrong but parts may be non existant or expensive if you find a source. I bought a canopy ffor my JD Saturday and the owner had a new Landpride 6' tiller. He said it was over 5k and the best machine for the dollar. I had no idea they were that expensive. My neighbor paid 1800 for a new King Kutter and stated it works great. I am sure he will never wear it out. If I wanted a new one the KK looks as good as many of them for the dollar spent.
