I am looking for a source for the part that would fit over the FEL cylinder rod when loader is raised to hold it up for safety when working under the hood and also when storing for winter so FEL can't come down. I have heard of "U shaped pieces" that fit over the cylinder rod but don't know of a source. Thanks in advance...

Please note, I am not interested in cutting a pipe in half although I have not crossed it off my list.

The ones I’ve seen hold the cab of a fire engine up to expose the pump and engine. It is huge load weighing thousands of pounds and failure would most certainly cause death if one was under it! Those use a “U” shaped piece of steel to fit between the cylinder and the rod head- this piece is the same length as the extended rod. This will be your easiest and cheapest option. If you don’t want to make this a welding shop should be able to make something in an hour or less- it doesn’t have to be complex.

Some sort of prop rod that you lowered the bucket onto would be second.

And a distant and costly third is having cylinder check valve/safety installed. This is a device used on cranes and other cylinders that need a safety to prevent movement once set. This would be the most expensive and complex option.

Yep that’s the ticket!

Just go to a steel supplier and buy a piece of heavy channel iron that will fit over the cylinder rod. Paint it orange if you like and make a bracket to keep it someplace on the tractor.

1 1/2" angle stock cut to length would do the trick, better still 2 pieces of angle placed to form a 'U' and held in place with a pair of hose clamps.

Shucks, I made mine from old discarded bed spring angle stock. Best was that it's free.

If you will look at equipment on wheels, a lot of them have angle iron on the cylinders as Piloon has suggested. One thing know, most anything reasonable you use will bend if you forget they are there and bend if you apply pressure to lower the loader.

If you have access to any tractor/baler salvage yards, you may find one there. I know Hesston big round balers had one stored on each side of the lift cylinders, held in place by a pin. They will hold the cyl. in place but if you apply pressure they will crinkle.
