Sorry, one more grease question for the loader

....
In my homeowner/estate use I will just accept extra wear on the pins and bushings if I forget to grease. The cost of new bushings is lower than the cost of new carpets if I track Moly grease in the house on my feet.

Curly: Dont you know that when using that black Moly grease you have to be naked and barefooted??.......:D. That way the wife can just hose you down when your finished!!

I use a non-Moly grease even though I know the Moly additive would give better wear protection. The problem is that the Moly grease is black and hard to clean off household fabrics.

Agreed, the black grease is just to high of a price to pay.. I really dislike it!

I only used the grease from JD while my tractor was under warranty.

Once my warranty expired, i started using the same grease that we used on equipment in the coalmines.

You may want to take a look at the Hydrotex products... We used their teflon grease in our heavy equipment, on the pins. Great stuff..!! You could not beat it out of those pins. We ripped a lot of shale for fill, then loaded it on trucks. Many a day I've ripped, and loaded for 10 hrs. of operating time.
We did grease once a day, and never once had any problems. Just a couple shots per pin, and you knew you were good to go.

I just use the cheapest stuff I can find in the Farm Supply place :D
Use gobs of it and have seemingly never had a problem in the last 25 years.
At the contractors where I work they have hundreds of thousands of ?? worth of kit, and we just use whatever grease we have to hand. Just make sure you grease regularly, lots of cheap grease is better than too little expensive grease.

Being it was a government entity I worked for, they bought the cheapest grease that met minimum specs for a while... We were greasing every 4 hours or less... On hot days, that stuff would actually drip on the ground. Purchasing was wondering why we were going through so much grease... Finally got it through their heads what was going on... Had a Rep. from Hydrotex come in, and gave us a couple cases of 10 to try... Used it after that...
I'd imagine you're right on the cold temps... But again..., being it was a gov't facility, we used what we had, for fear they would stop buying it...

Some interesting contrasts. :)

You forgot to add aluminium complex, which makes it waterproof, not water resistant like lithium. Try schaeffers moly grease www.schaefferoil.com

For grease and specialty lubes checkout batonrougeindustries.com.
I use the M-25 grease on everything, its very sticky. Don't touch it if you don't want it all over you.

Moly and Lithium are two different things. Moly is a additive that can be added to any grease. Lithium is the base type. The grease base type can range from Lithium, Calcium, Calcium 12-Hydroxysterate, Poly Urea to Barium. You will often find the same grease in two different types, one with and one without Moly. So to answer your question Moly isn't better than Lithium but Moly fortified Lithium would be better than plain Lithium grease.

I was using a lithium grease from an area farm supply store when I got my tractor. Before I could use a tube of that stuff it would turn into a puddle of oil on the ground under where I hang the gun. It also made a mess of my loader around the pins. So I started buying my grease from JD. Parts guy has been selling me JD's Multi-Purpose SD Polyurea Grease. It is a tacky grease that does not turn to oil and run. Been using it to grease everything I got for over a year now with no problems.

So my question is.. is a lithium based grease with moly better than a polyurea based grease? If so, is it that much better?

Here is the JD grease page with the test analysis of all the greases they sell:

For pins and bushings using a grease with MolyD is the best choice. MolyD has a crystalline structure that allows it to have low friction properties under sliding conditions just what the pins and bushings see when they go through their normal rotational movements. MolyD is a great dry lubricant and it stays in the pin and bushing region even after the grease carrier is squeezed out from the high load forces.

Greases come in all flavors depending on operational temperatures, waterproofing, dirt intrusion, etc. You don't seem to care for a grease with a low thickening agent, which is probably also a low temperature grease. So any that doesn't run in your environment is going to be fine.

Honestly guys, these are compact tractors. They don't see the tremendous unit loading and service cycles of the bearings that HD loaders, dozers, excavators and other commercial equipment go through. A good quality product at your comfort price range will be fine. But the best source for recommendations would be asking the web site of a lubrication supplier. Even the tractor companies rely on what their suppliers product specialist tell them.
