Mowing Soot on new L3901 with a Landpride 72" mower

I used my new L3901 today mowing a small pasture. I have soot on the back of the tractor, on the RCR1872 Landpride mower, and the left tractor tire(looking from the front of the tractor). Any ideas where it might be coming from? My wife swears the mower is vibrating too much. I'm going to look in more detail tomorrow morning. This tractor has 2 hours on it.

Fairly certain that should not be happening. Is it making any unusual noises? I have the same tractor and have used it mowing fields at high rpms and have zero soot or exhaust that can be seen...one of the Tier 4 benefits. I would call your dealer and check in with them. Keep us posted on how you make out.

I agree. It's probably exhaust. Make sure you're running at rated rpm.. The rated rmp should be clearly marked on the tach.

I dont think a tier 4 tractor should be shooting soot out the exhaust. I know mine doesnt have this problem at all I mow at the 540rpm mark on the tach with my 3901.

Check the mower belt. I bought a Woods RD72 that had been setting a while and the drive sheave(pulley) was unpainted and had rusted enough to shave the belt. It looks just like soot. Make sure to rotate the belt and check the entire length as it seems to want to wear in a particular area. I had the drive sheave replaced under warranty.
