Son got another old garden tractor, this one is missing most of the engine bay stuff. But had a working rototiller with it, belt drive. Tractor has a weird round bar top link and small square lower mount. Really interesting thing once we dug into it. The rope start was on the transmission, horizontal shaft engine with drive shaft to a gear box. Its really interesting and it looks like if we just bolt up a new motor he can start spring rototilling gardens. I will post some pics as soon as we get home
Thanks

Guess it started when he was 4 and we cleaned up and put a new motor on a david bradley. Still using it for the garden to this day.

I'm pretty sure that's a Simplicity tractor as they used that rear hitch style and that style drive from the engine. Just a warning the Simplicity I've worked on in the past the power from the engine to the transmission came from the flywheel side so it turns backward...

This is the tiller, everything turns and works. Still going to make him take it apart and clean.

Now that sir is a great find. A little work and fresh paint can make that attachment worth while. Gardening season will be here sooner than you think. This would be of good use to restore sooner than later. Especially with food prices being crazy right now.

It is much better to learn lesson on relatively cheap projects when one in young than to learn on expensive projects at an older age. Not specific to your son's purchase:
If you do not do dumb things in your youth you will not have wisdom in old age. Some my best time were trying to figure out machinery with my father.

Its a simplicity 700, he is working on a rototiller to make money for a engine. The plan is to get it running and he will rototill gardens to make more money this spring. I was working an estate job and he got a box full of tools from the guy and i bought him an angle grinder. Now hes working on cleaning all of them up.
