Re: SOMETHING TO PONDER

I understand, Frank. We have an unbelievable amount of highway construction going in our area, including some multi-level overpass highway interchanges, and I drive by and just marvel at all the equipment they're using.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Think of it as your tax dollars at work or at rest. Either way, it is a lot of tax dollars going to waste. I have often said that if government had to operate like a business it would be bankrupt in less than a year. Just think of it this way... Would you spend millions of your own money to get elected to a job that pays $150,000 a year? Politicians do this all the time and many times it doesn't even amount to half that salary. Must be the perks that go along with the job. One of which is getting your friends and family state jobs. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Something else to ponder..... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif )</font>

Isn't that the truth!!!!!! Gerard

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( I have a problem with paying taxes to private corporations !!! )</font>

Having worked for one of those private corporations, providing services to the gummint, one thing we marketed was, "When the job is over, or if you don't like the work, you fire us, and we're gone. No impossible to get rid of staff." You buy a lot of flexibility with that system, and it puts the money back in the private sector.

In any event, we, through the <cough> wisdom of the political process have determined that the work must be done, so someone's gotta do it.

We had a major consulting project once, involved with a big environmental disaster. We were working for the attorneys.

At one of the first meetings, they objected to our hourly rates. Now, that is not uncommon; injunears is expensive.

No, they thought our rates were too low. It made them look bad. They didn't have to hold a gun to our heads to get us to raise them. Unfortunately, none of that went into our pockets. <shrug>

Think about the pension liabilities us taxpayers avoid by privatization,at least until the company goes bankrupt and the feds have to pick them up.

Yep that too, just can't get away from it. They gotta have some way of paying people back for contributions.

Re: SOMETHING TO PONDER

I am a state employee and money we get is allocated by higher ups. If we dont use the money we have set for 2004 then we will get less in 2005.
Any project costing over $2500 must be put up for bid. I guess to support local business?

Its probaly different in every state.
