1. Should the hydrostatic trans be in neutral or in gear when operating the backhoe? At what rpm should I set the hand throttle to?

2. When lifting something heavy with the bucket on the FEL should I increase the rpms? If so, how high?

Thanks

Capacity to lift weight is a function of hydraulic cylinder size(s) installed on your Loader. Engine speed does not change Loader lift capacity.

Increased engine speed will moderately change speed at which Loader moves, because higher engine speed spins hydraulic pump faster.

Either neutral or in gear should be fine. I suspect that 99% of people would leave it in gear so that they can creep forward or backwards a little bit as needed. As for the engine RPM, I would start with a high idle perhaps 1000 RPM and go from there. With a lower throttle setting your backhoe will be less twitchy and easier to control until you get the hang of it.

As has been said, the only difference that a higher engine speed will make is to let you lift the bucket faster. It should be able to lift about the same no matter what the engine speed is. Just make sure that you are going fast enough that it doesn't lug and stall the engine.

I leave the machine in gear because it doesn’t roll until a get the stabilizers down. And I drove the machine forward with the cruise control.

Increased engine speed only increases fluid speed to the cyclinders not lift capacity. On my Kub I have the lift throttle set to 2000 rpm. When I lift the bucket and push the button the RP jumps to 2K. It is a setable rpm on a 6060.

When you're in the BH seat, isn't the main seat thinking it is unoccupied? That would mean it has to stay in N with brake set or else the seat safety switch bypassed? Unless they set up the machine differently for BH so it isn't as fussy about butt in the driver's seat?

I usually set hand throttle to around 2k rpm for loader work and have linked pedal engaged. Quiet enough & loader arms move fast enough there, but speed will pick up when moving if needed. However with "sticky" clay in the bucket, I generally have to set the rpm a little higher or I can't shake (hit dump stop point) the bucket fast enough to dislodge sticky stuff.

My seat safety was disabled but I think you had to flip the seat forward in the factory settings. In either case it would be an aggravation since I used the cruise control to drive forward and it was a big time saver.

.

The only safety switch on my new ck3510se TLB is the one requiring the brake to be depressed to start the engine. There's nothing on the seat or range selector at all.

To the OP's question....if you've got DPF, I'd keep your rpm's up around 2k for everything. My first 16 hrs on my new machine was all backhoe work, much of that I did at idle, or slightly above. I got my first regen cycle at 18.5hrs. Since then, I've kept rpm's > 2k, and at 64hrs, I haven't had another regen yet.

Kioti manual for the KB2475L says that the engine rpm should be between 1800 and 2200 rpm. They don't recommend running above 2200.
I leave the transmission in Neutral IF I am on flat ground. If on sloped ground, then I set the parking brake AND leave the tranny in neutral.
