Hi, everyone. First post here but I've been trolling for quite some time. I purchased a tractor in 2019, spent the winter getting it operational, and have been tinkering with it for the past year. It has done a lot of work for me in that short time and has definitely paid for itself. Not to get into too many details, I rebuilt the entire hydraulic system, serviced the engine, redid all the electrical, fitted up the powertrain, mended some of the old abuse, and I'm now playing around with body panels. Here's where it gets tricky:
I bought it as a project tractor and it came with a good frame, a good engine, and a good hydrostatic transaxle separate from the rest, but working. From what I can tell, the frame is a Terramite T2 from the 70s. The transmission is from an old Jacobsen, tractor model unknown. The engine is from a Economy Power King (Kholer K321).
My specific question today is regarding the hydrostatic transmission. The pump is an Eaton 10 or 11. The rear end is a Perrless 2500. The charge pump on the Eaton is used to drive a power steering cylinder (old Bendix cylinder off of a Buick). I had a small leak in the cylinder gland but have since rebuilt it and the system is leak free. My concern is now I need to add oil back into the Eaton pump. (It probably needs some good service too) I have a WIX 51410 filter in hand which matches whats on the there now.
With the transmission, does the Eaton share the same fluid with the Peerless, i.e., does the output shaft have sealed or open bearings? Depending on the answer to this question, how do I drain and refill the transmission or the individual parts (pump and transaxle)? My Peerless does not have a dipstick but it does have a breather vent. I read tons about lubrication recommendations but I'm certainly open to suggestions (10W-30?).
Thank you all for your help!
Edited to add photos of the setup 5/15/22. Eaton model 1100. This is all a work in progress... not a pretty tractor but a working one! View attachment 745937View attachment 745938View attachment 745939View attachment 745940View attachment 745941
