I'm in the custom hay baling business and I maintain comprehensive insurance on my equipment. My cutter operator "found" a pipe gate with heavy cyclone fencing attached that a storm had blown out into field and the grass had "grown up" through it. This accident did $1000 damage to my Vermeer M7030. I have $250 deductible and insurance sent me a check for $750

Ouch! I hope you caught it before all the oil leaked out? Still sounds like you're going to want to drain, disassemble, clean and repair that cutter bar? Could be bits and pieces of anything in there...

Actually, it seemed to have a deep gouge, but not a big hole, or a place for anything to get in. Oil was just oozing, not running. I don't know if it ever went dry, but there was certainly oil in it when I got it. Someone suggested tilting the bar to allow the oil to run to the opposite side, then welding, which I did, and it seemed to work.

I've decided to mow with a small drum mower this year, but will do a bit more cleaning on the disc, probably change the oil, and hopefully have everything ready for next year.

I was doing maintenance on my discbine this summer and found a bunch of twine wound up and melted under a couple of turtles. Had cut old aluminum fence wire out of it last year.

Also sent a 24 ft aluminum RV awning through it last year too, luckily it just sort of jumped over the turtles and went through.
