Can anyone advise a spray lubricate to keep snow from sticking to a snowblower's housing, auger, impeller and chute. I was thinking of teflon or silicon spray, but someone mentioned "Pam" or WD-40? Any recommendations that really work?

regular household floor wax works great, brush, pour, wipe or spray it on with a small garden pump up sprayer.

For the past several years I have used either WD-40 or Pam. They both work equally well. It's best to put one or the other on while the blower is still dry.

They both work. We use spray Grapite when we can as it seems to hold better. Does make the inside of the hood black if that is a problem for you then you can use the other remedies suggested.

I don't have a snowblower, but I use the generic brand cooking spray on my FEL bucket before heading out to plow snow.

I live in a snow belt area and we do get lots of snow. Most of the highway crews use liquid snowplow wax. they have it in a small garden sprayer and put it on every other day. It looks just like floor wax(white in colour) When they run out of the SPW they use floor wax. Floor wax is what I will be useing on my blower.

MountainMan,
Silicone spray worked on both my snowblower and
my rear blade. My guess is that teflon spray would work too.
Maybe I should spray something on the trees along
my drive because that 59" snowblower chucks the snow
15 - 20 feet up into the trees. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I did a Google search for 'snow plow wax' and got 29 hits. Here's one of them.

Mountainman,
I use a generic PAM spray on my walk behind snowblower. Works great.

I would strongly advise against the silicon. You will never be able to paint something that has been sprayed with silicon.

I called to get a price on snow plow wax...... $24.95 a gallon with 4 per case, or $19.95 per gallon in a 5 gallon pail.. both prices don't include shipping. Shipping to CT from the NY warehouse would be $10.00 - $12.00.... That sure would buy a lot of spray cans of PAM at $1.99!!!!!! Guess what I am going to continue to use??????? Pam..... I love you... just don't tell my wife.... she can be the jealous type /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifand Pam /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gifwas the name of the girlfriend that she replaced!!!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I try to run my unit for a minute or 2 to get cold before heading for the snow. I don't have any sticking problems if I do that.

Hi...

Thanks for the pricing...

5 gallons snowplow wax w/ shipping = $112...

5 gallons Pam (6oz can at $2 ea.) = $208...

...wax is cheaper... but probably can't bake with it... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

...Garlic Pam can be used to keep folks away from your equipment ! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. We're expecting some snow this weekend. If we do get any accumulation I'll try Pam (sans garlic) on one half of the blower and cheap floorwax on the other half and report back...

Pam's a winner! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif - Didn't get a chance to purchase the floor wax, but tried Pam spray and it works GREAT - Snow didn't stick to anything. BTW-Costco has large cans of Pam spray. Thanks mucho for the tip!
