Anybody happen to know anything about shear pins technology. There are two shear pins in the augers on two stage snow blowers. Seems like you should be able to use something else that would do the same job that was cheaper and more readily available.

These bolts cut easy with ahack saw so they are must be fairly soft, a #2 or so, certainly not any harder and they are notched. Seems like you should be able to use a #2 bolt cut half way in two to do the same job. Anybody had any experience with this alternative.

Shears pins (bolts) are $1.50 each if you can find them.

Thanks.

What brand snowblower? I found some Ariens bolts that were similar to my Bolens snowblower from a guy on the web. I think I paid about $10 for 10. Should be a lifetime supply.

I have a YardMan Model 933. This is a 13hp 33" cut blower.

The shear pins are 5/16 - 18 x 1.75. MTD sells these on their web site for $1.50 each. I seem to snap one off everytime I use the unit.

Thanks.

In my opinion they are a lot cheaper than replacing the gearbox if the #2's do not shear as well. I purchase shear pins at the begining of the season keep at least 5 on hand. went thru 3 already this winter from picking up chuncks of ice.
