Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Snow Removal with FEL

Last year or year before I used my Kioti ck30hst with a backblade very successfully with chains to plow light snow up to about 24" or so even on some small hills. Just now and then would the rear blade sort of swing the tractor around.

Just in the last few days I had the Woods bx80 backhoe on and was lazy, so used the FEL to clear 17" medium snow about a 1500' driveway on hills. It of course was a lot more messy and difficult to do, but result was ok.

But, here's the question: If we had a BIG snow, say 36" or more and drifts higher, I'm thinking that the rear blade wouldn't work at all, and I COULD slowly use the FEL to get thru. Especially with 900lb of backhoe on the back for traction.

I'm sure you all have faced this, just interested in comments.

I say the BH would weigh more than blade..more traction.

Storm as such it may be wise to plow half way thru the storm than try to clean up all at once..blade may come in handy.

The day I wake up to a 36" snow fall is the day I slap a For Sale sign on the tractor (and everything else), head for the airport in search of a south bound flight. Very South !

IMO if you didn't have a blower, then the next best choice for a 3 foot dump would be the loader.

Absolutely! Go LOADER, Go! My rig has a loader in the front and a blower on the back. We don't back down for any storm! 16 feet was the largest drop in 48 hours and I was the only one moving snow. I usually wait till the storm is over then move it once.

Loader with snow bucket and use the back blade to come back and scrape clean.

We have only had an inch of snow so far. Not enough to get the yanmar out of the garage. Last winter when we had 4' of snow, it took my dad, step mom, and I 2 days to dig out the driveway with the FEL. Couldnt use the skidsteer on the driveway since the rubber tracks are awful on ice, and i slide down the driveway once, never again. So I used that to clear our parking lot out. If it ever snows that much here again I WILL buy a snow blower for my Yanmar. I wish everyone luck and safety as they plow the snow off their driveways and neighbors driveways.

Honestly, in Winchester, VA I don't think I'd worry about it for a minute. If you get that much snow, it will be a week before the roads are open to go anywhere and you'll have plenty of time to clear out with what you have unless you have a couple miles of driveway.
