Snow Plow Options for Deere 2520?

Hi all,

So I'm a first time poster...read some threads thus far and decided to post a question. The 2520 is my dads tractor (just bought) and I know he wants a snow plow blade for it, only thing is they are pretty costly new and hard to come by used. So I was looking at some cheap options that may require little/no modifications to make them work with the tractor.

I was scoping out two used options, one is a used Meyer snow plow that I might be able to make a mounting bracket for (don't know if it's too big for the tractor) and the other is a blade off a 317 that I think I could make a bracket for as wee (don't know how it attaches to the 317, but my dad and I can handle a little metal fab and welding):

I'm just going to use my rear blade and bucket for my 1/4 mile driveway... Anything will be better than the Cub lawn tractor I had with a 42" blade! I expect my plowing to go from 2-3 1/2 hours to 20-30 minutes with the 6' rear blade...

Its a 4 wheel drive. How much rear ballast if any would I need for the Meyer blade?

You need ballast to offset anything you have on the front end to help get some weight off of the front axle. 500-800lbs should do nicely.

Unless you get mountains of snow - go for the 6'6" - as you probably read in some threads the 54" JD plow is expensive and when angled doesn't give that wide of coverage.

I have a 6'6" FEL plow that I modified for my 2320 that works great. We have long drive (800'+) driveway and circular drive in the front of our house. After reading the numerous threads/debates on FEL v. frame mount plows I went with the FEL plow because I need to change between plow/forks/bucket & grapple too much. With a 6'6" FEL plow, KennyD is right that you lose some control on the deep snows (even though I have rear tires loaded & leave my box blade on the back - minus the rippers). To counteract it I have the A frame as far back as it will go & make my first push down the driveway with the blade straight.

If you're doing a frame plow then you should really be fine. The picture of the plow you posted looks in great condition. I lucked out on a used uglier looking one from a neighbor for $200, had it sand blasted, repainted it myself, did the diverter plumbing, welding, new cylinders & other misc. parts. For the plow project I spent about $600ish (not including diverter).

How about a brand new one for about the same price as the used Meyer. It fits perfectly, no brackets to make, and is even available in JD colors!
