A couple more pictures of the finished product (for now).

Side pics show the A-frame would have to be lowered 2 inches in the back to be level. Anyone think this is going to be noticeable as far as lightening the front end, like was pointed out?

JB.

Give it a trial run, and if the front end won't stay put, might have to drop the frame down. But with your skills, that shouldn't be a major change or headache.

Nice looking rig, and suppose you are just wishing for snow now. :)

While the above answer is exactly technically correct, experience has shown me:

1) The valve based float function, used in cold winter temperatures does not allow a lot of movement in the typically small CUT FEL lines combined with cold, less viscous hydraulic fluid. (my Bush Hog brand oem lines are 1/4") I find it usseful in the summer, but not in the cold.

My experience into the negative (below) 0 degree F temps, no problem with floating on the one-way lift ram used for raising the plow. Follows the contours without any problems. Plenty of plow weight in the 7' Western prolly helps that a lot.

Yes sir that is it, plenty of weight. I did the float deal when I first made my plow blade and frame. The first winter using it was rather cold but not terrible, and maybe I travel a little to fast but the blade float could not keep up with the speed at which I was plowing. I added about 40 pounds to the blade by bolting on some inch plate steel, helped a little. I changed it over to the chain lift and free float, left the added weight.

I read a study way back when from a university in Houghton MI (avg yearly snowfall 28') and their big conclusion with regards to plow performance was simply the heavier the plow, the better it performed .... seems pretty much a straight forward concept where you almost cannot go wrong

Just finished my snow blade setup this week, will see how she works in a few weeks? Will work on the HYD angle next.
Looks good, need more pictures. I keep telling myself I need to add the power angle to mine but never have and after 20 years don't think I will. 20 years ago I could not afford it. What's the deal with the Vice Grips? I think you're holding out on us.:D

Looks like you did a great job with that. I am going to be doing the same kind of operations on a 706 International this fall. Only thing concerning me from what I see is the possible need to run some kind of support from the bottom of the mount back along the frame of the tractor to distribute the push better, but maybe your blade is not big enough to worrie. The one I am mounting is 9' so will go with a support back by the clutch housing where factor mounted the loaders.
