Years back I was working with a supplier that opened a second facility in Dalton GA. Their main operation was in Grand Rapids MI. They had a huge snow storm in GA and collapsed! I was in charge of moving our equipment back to MI which struck me as somewhat ironic at the time. Talk about a mess though, collapsed building and all the water from the melting snow. Not fun...

They built a big arena in CT years ago. The roof was built on the ground, and then jacked up on 4 corner pillars. The massive roof was supposed to have about 4' of pitch (Why do they make roofs so flat?) but by the time they had the roof in place, it was virtually flat. Then they added the lights, video screens, and speakers hanging from the center of it! Along came about 10" of wet snow, followed by a heavy rain. The roof collapsed only hours after a basketball game. The security guard was blown out into the street by the wind it made.

Here in Oklahoma, around 10 years ago we had a clearance/outlet store collapse due to snow and poor design. I tried to find an article about it, but the name of the place was called Walls, and so any search for it brings up general snow load situations and Murray building stuff.
Anyway, it collapsed during business hours and (I am almost positive) that everyone was blown out of the building. Can you imagine getting blown out of a building?

I find it hard to believe that anyone could be blown out unless they where already standing in the doorway.

See homes up here every year that cave in do to bad load limits. Any time I see someone getting a modular{etc} type home delivered I ask if they made sure to get the heavy snow load truse. Half the time they just look at me funny, then it happens

I believe it is possible. We went skiing in Krkonose mountains many years ago. We couldn't see the hotel until we came to the place it was located at. There was a hole in snow where the smoke from chimney was coming out.

I've seen that picture before. There were a few other houses in the foreground. I think it's real.
I worked for a mall developer for a few years. Every so often we ran into issues with heavy snow loads on the roofs of malls. The worst were the properties in the northern parts of the "south" The were not built with heavy snow loads in mind. If it got bad enough they would have to shovel off the roof. Could you imagine shoveling snow off a mall roof? Not my idea of fun

I don't know if it is real or not. But it sure reminds me of a DQ soft-serve icecream cone.

From the blizzard of '78, I would say blowing snow can do odd things. Don't know if that's just a house under there, photoshop job or what. Don't see how the house could hold all that snow without collapsing. If it is real, I'm guessing there is a silo or something the snow formed around.

New Englanders do take their ice cream seriously. The Gifford's in Farmington has a line in front of it all weekend in the summer.

THere is a strip mall in Chester California. Flat roof. I have seen 30 feet of snow in three weeks. THey keep two big snow blowers on the roof. It is funny driving by and seeing guys blowing the roof off.
