Thavil-

Well, we got a good 5-6." We haven't gotten that much snow in a few years, and it does it in March. The power was out most of today because of it.

Kyle

Kyle, sounds like you were just west of the brunt - I'm about 15 miles southeast of you and we got 10". I'm curious what Thavil ended up with,

Today was my first go at moving snow. After almost two years of reading here about chains, how R4s don't do well, etc, I was pretty leary. My driveway is relatively flat, couple of gradual slopes, but if it breaks free, I have a 50-60' hill at 30-35 degrees I'm into. Well the R4s held up fine, not much ice, so I went to do the neighbor's driveway (single mom, young kids - my wife insisted! :D). This was a 150' at a 35 degree incline - was a bit nervous - but again handled it fine

Not saying chains aren't necessary - It was in the 20's and I worried about the thin layer of packed snow left after my first pass. I kept waiting for the "breakaway" but it never came.

I was calling neighbors to see if they needed theirs done - but I was too slow. Got they hang of it towards the end - unfortunately have to wait till next year i reckon....

Kyle and NuBota, we ended up with about 7" here. Not as much as they predicted for this area but it was enough for me. Worked from home today instead of driving into DC and had to keep from looking out the window. The tractor was calling my name all day!! Finally, around 2:30pm, I was able to quit working (started at 5am this morning) and went out and had some fun.

In my very limited snow time, I agree with what you said about the R-4's. Didn't have an issue in the deepest part but I also have a flat driveway. Tod

I'm getting really tired of the snow. I already have plowed 35 hours this winter and its snowing again today. Bring on Spring!

Spring is a precurser to those hot humid sweaty days of summer...........I'll take these cold crisp days over those in a heartbeat.

Thought I would reply with some stats..
I live in Saluda, NC..
I measured 14- 16 inches.. with some drifts up to 20 inches and more!

here are some pics..

there are a few of the scraped gravel drive...
NOTE-- there was already some bare gravel areas... so the mud was expected...

and there is also a picture of the asphault portion of the drive to a neighbors and a picture of an unscraped area...
I will try to take some more tomorrow but I had to leave today for a business trip...

Whatcha think?

I was gonna add a few more things..
It was funny that the state / county did not have time to scrape the old county road, but they had time to send a "brush crew" down the road to clear a few low hanging and downed trees / limbs.. nothing that was critical mind you... more of an annoyance... When hit with a bucket, the tree limbs dumped snow and straightened up.... But the state guys just cut them...

We helped them out and pushed a 30 foot pine tree top into the ditch and off the road..

I scraped about a mile maybe a mile and a half from our driveway to the state road. it was bad.. It is in one of the pics above. It is the one with the power lines in the shot..

We are still without power at home. everyone else is over at other family members homes...I'm in a hotel heading to a TN business meeting...

anyway that is our winter blast..

anyone else got a good story? and Pics of course...

the work for all this accounted for about 5 hours on the tractor..

Later,
J
