Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Snow - how deep can you go through?

I wouldn't think of heading into winter and snow without tire chains. That is when my CUT is worked the most. Hauling fire wood in log lenghts and on snow. Once the snow becomes packed and freezes the next day it is slippery. I very seldom use 4 wheel drive because I have the chains and once the weight of the log is on the 3ph it just keeps going until I push the clutch in. These logs are sometimes 14-16 " in dia and I will have 3 -4 hitched up.

Hmm, let's see, an L3410 with R-4s and 4WD, with FEL and Box Blade for extra weight ----- snow you say, that's cold stuff I've heard tell ---- OK, I could drive through zero inches ---- this Southern boy would stay inside, and warm, cause it'd melt soon (longest we've had snow on the ground on the coast of SC in the last 20 years has been 2 days - and 2 days I can wait).

I spilled some Ice out of my beer cooler yesterday and the tractor drove right through it with no problems. It was almost too cold to be on the tractor it was in the mid 70s.:D :D :D

I have a Yanmar 186D. It has R4s. 6X12 on the front and 9.50x16 on the rear. No weights. A couple of years ago we had 18" but I made the mistake of letting it lay for a couple of days. It crusted over and the tractor would sort of ride up on top and spin its wheels even with chains. I ended up breaking it open with the 5 hp Ariens snowblower. What a great machine. Once I had a lane open I could finish up with the tractor and rear blade. I suppose it depends on the snow you get. Don't you love powder.

while not a tractor... ive had my 4x4 toyota pickup in 24". As long as i kept moving i was fine. If i stopped i had to back up in my own tracks to get a running start again. (my truck has about 8" of ground clearance at its lowest point) light to medium snow.

This was to fetch some firewood. It was easyer once i had 800 lbs of firewood in the back when i was leaving.

I've pushed plenty of snow with the front bumper of an old 9n Ford. If it's icy underneath or soggy mud you won't go anywhere fast, but in the yard snow isn't an issue. But then, to a Buffalo boy, snow is seldom an issue anyway.
