I always TRY to avoid travel when there is inclement weather, ESPECIALLY with a trailer, but Murphy and his Laws have weird ways of beating me.

So, that said; What do you carry for snow chains ? (assuming you HAVE snow chains).

Do you chain up all 4 on the truck ?
Just drive wheels ?
Just single chains on the outer tires on DRW truck, or double/triple ?
Front, rear, or all axles on the trailer ?

We can argue it all ways and that can be enlightening, but for now I would just like to know WHAT folk are carrying for chains.
and where you use them.

No chains and never had a issue.

By law, you have to carry a set on certain roads in BC if you're commercial. Drive wheels only. There's a DOT guideline somewhere online if you're inclined to look.

So we have a brand new set of chains in our tool box, that will never get used.

I recall driving in Colorado one winter and everyone was pulled over chaining up.... we thought it was kind of amusing.

Odd ?
Although I will probably NEVER drive through B.C. that is a page that was part of my reason for starting this thread.
I am fairy sure that some US States require that chains be carried and that you carry enough for all 4 of the tow vehicle and at least 2 of the trailer - whether "commercial" or not.

I can look it up by State, but having taken a trip up to Jackson Hole WY and seen semis flipped over in the center strip on I-80 the price of a full set isn't THAT MUCH in the total scheme of things.
Sure, you can lay over another day maybe two, but emergencies are just that.
I am NOT planning to get chains so that I can press on at all costs, I just want to safely get to shelter if the weather closes in unexpectedly.
I do watch the weather ahead when on multi-day trips, so this is a back-up to back-up tactic.
