7 years ago I was in your shoes, I sold my pickup with plow and was looking for a tractor and front mounted snow blower. The front mounts are nice, but they sure are expensive.... For about half the price of a 5' front model I got a much heavier 6.5' rear mount. 7 winters later - no regrets. My driveway is 800' long and it's nice to have the FEL for clearing out the mailbox, piling snow for the kids, etc. My unit is a Canadian made Agrotrend, I've changed the gearbox oil once, grease the fitting 4+ times/season and keep some chain saw oil onthe chain drive. I've never sheared a link or a shear pin. This unit has an 60 horse gearbox and my L3710 only puts out 30 at the PTO. The second stage fan will still pick up a penny. I move anywhere from 20''s a year to 110", (we average 60" and see lots of drifting). This thing has seen numerous 36"+ storms where my neighbors needed bailing out because their plow service or their little snow blowers couldn't get the job done. I'll never go back to a plow. When I had the truck big storms required multiple plow outs and the driveway starts out 20'+ wide and in a bad year by spring you're down to an 8' track with snow banks you cannot see over.

I like my rear blower as well and have used it alot. On those days when the wind is blowing and the snow will blow back in your face, I put the fel in float and use that, works great. I have used my blower to make a long winding path around the field so we can take the dogs for walks in the winter.

You guy's say you don't regret getting the rear mount, becouse you never had a front mount. Front mount blowers are superior in every way (as far as using the blower goes).

New for a Deere is $2700 for the blower, $2500 for the thrower (without front hitch). Used market for the Blower is around $1800 with hitch, $1200 for the thrower with hitch. These are upper midwest used prices, they may be different in your area. If you don't see a lot of drifting/deep snow in your area of clearing, you should be able to get by with the thrower. The Deere thrower throws the snow almost as far as the blower, but it doesn't cut through drifts/deep snow as well.

Front snowblowers are not cheap. I purchased a kubota B series 2782 last year. 60 inch working with, subframe/quick hitch, hydraulic chute control. The package ran almost $4400. This is my second kubota front snowblower, the design has changed, they are much better than the 26 series!

I also have a rear mount Ber-Vac blower. My dirveway is 2.5 MILES long and a front blower would be great but way too pricy for my budget.
I used to stand on the running board ( looking towards to blower ) while blowing snow. Then, one day the running board got really icy so I just threw my leg over the hood and now I just sit like that with the steering wheel between my legs. Now my rear mounted snow blower is now a front mount.
That solved my aching neck problem.....

I had a front mount blower on my fathers old tractor and it was nice but it was a pain since you could not see for a good 2' in front of the snowblower which led to a few large rocks and toys getting eaten up. The thing was a rear pain to put on/off and we had a few problem with all the running gear under the tractor freezing up. There is also some power loss in the drivetrain from the rear PTO to the front.

The rear mount 60" snowblower on my CK20hst takes a whole 2 minutes to install, is much easier to control (Thanks to Position Control 3pt), I can see directly in front of it and it seems to be much stonger. I have had no complaints so far and for less than $1800 new it was the best buy yet. Besides the heated cab that is. :D

with the lights lower you are going to find it harder to see in the dark (just a bright white wall). I do most of my blowing in the dark and once ended up a good 100 feet in the feild.
