Anyone running a snow blower on a smaller tractor? I'm thinking about putting one on my 1710. Just wondering about other ppls experience

I don't have one, but every video and thread Ive seen about it says they work well and the GC has no issues powering it. They aren't cheap, though.

I did have one, GC 2400 with MF2360,hand can attest that they work well on most snows. Wet, heavy snows, as we often get here in the mid-Alantic can be problematical. Those snows can block up the chute, because of these issues I sold it. If you get one, always have the wrenches and sheer pins with you. Ice and rocks can jam and break the pins. Today I use my blade and FEL to move snow. Much slower than the blower, but also easier in the kinds of snow prevalent here.

If you get a blower, the next thing you should consider is getting a cab for the tractor. Blowing snow in your face can be a BIG issue.

I have one for my GC2300. Yes a heavy wet snow can block the chute from time to time but, IMHO, the benefits of having the snow not piling up next to the driveway and not having to keep moving old snow are worth it. This last winter was pretty mild and I actually only moved what little snow we had with the rear blade. Also when I have the blower on I always have the rear blade on to pull snow out from against the garages and such (I am not a big fan of shoveling snow).

I have been working on using a hydraulic motor to rotate the chute and adding an electric actuator to control the angle of the top of the chute. This project has gone on for a number of years but I just haven't got my hands on the right motor yet.

Actually one of my favorite activities is using my tractor to blow snow around (One of more than a few reasons that my wife thinks I'm nuts).

I have the front blower on my GC1720. Works great. Here is a video of my wife running it for the first time. I wanted her to be able to use it in case we get a storm while I am traveling. Had her running a low rpm to get used to things. Has lots of power.

Thanks everyone. I going to make my decision soon. As soon as the money tree I planted this spring blossoms.

Ditto what loulblades said; I love mine, and it was the main reason I got a GC2310. Ordered it with the blower, have had it since Feb of 2008 and it has really earned its keep. My driveway is about 200 feet, uphill from the house, with a 30' wide area in front of the garage.

Took me about 3-4 hrs with a walk-behind blower (including a path to the chicken house and a circuit around the whole house); about 1-1/2 hrs tops with the 2310 & blower. Chute clogging can be minimized with a lining of UHMWPE, though clogs are not terribly common in NH.

Yes, definitely not cheap, but IMHO well worth it.

+1

I'd pass on blowing snow, without an enclosed cab. Been there, done that.

That's why God invented the snow plow.
