Hello,

Took delivery of my JD 4115 a couple of weeks ago and would like to know if it is a good idea to try to put a snow plow blade (Meyer 7.5' poly) on the FEL arms? This balde is heavier than its steel counter part and I don't want to tweak the FEL or anything else for that matter. The blade is left over from plowing snow with my truck, but since the truck burned last spring, I find my self with a perfectly good blade and nothing to put it on. I was told the blade would be able to plow and stack snow and would be a companion for the 7' back blade.

If this is do-able, any does anyone make a mount to connect it?

This seems to be a great site. I got a lot of good info before making my purchase - THANKS.

Jim

JD does make the same unit for instalation on the FEL arms. Why not check the comparable weights of the units.

If you are gentle and don't go ramming into things you should be OK.

Very do-able. Do a search here you'll find several home built contraptions. Those who have the setup rave about it.

Check out Curtis Cabs for a commercial version.

The tweaking happens when you strike an object. Because it is inbetween the pump & the spool valve, the hydraulic relief valve on the tractor only protects whatever circuit is operating. Ie, if you're lifting with the FEL it protects the Lift lines, cylinders etc. The relief valve won't pop if you're not operating any hyrdaulic functions. So, if you've got the blade down & hit the curb, you can burst a line or worse.

Curtis makes a relief valve that you plumb in line with the cylinders & will protect the FEL while plowing.

Weight is only a problem if it exceeds your FEL capacity.

Good luck, & happy plowing.

I have a Curtiss FEL type snow blade an there are trip springs
that allow the lower edge to flip back.

If you hit a curb / stump the blade usually folds back an
jumps over the obstacle. Now if you hit something like a tree
or telephone post then you may have a problem..

Where do you live? How much snow do you get? How long is your driveway? Therein lies the solution to your query. Some places it makes great sense, probably others not worth the effort.
PS- I'm in Maine and we get snow and I have a 350' driveway.
Respectfully, David

this is very easy to do...if you dont mindworking without power angle....all you do is build a lower mounts out of some angle iron with some tabs and bolt it into the bucket. this way you can take it off in a sec and use the bucket.
